Monotype, Salsford, no date. Single broadsheet printed in blue and black. (57 x 44 cm). The series of five broadsheets with ornaments from five centuries published by Monotype are widely admired. Designed by Sarah Clutton.
Classical key-patterns, twining garlands, diamonds and combinations of triangles, mainly intended to be used as borders or strips, gave a new look to typographical decoration at the time that the modern face was emerging. The English typefounders such as Figgins and Fry were among the most inventive designers of these new decorative units.
