Beskrivning
The Doves Press, Hammersmith, London 1907. 341 pages + colophon. Large 8vo (23,5 x 17 cm). Full limp vellum, gilt lettering to spine, top margin trimmed (minor foxing), others uncut. The soft vellum covers are warped, as often. Three bookplates inside front cover. Red initials by Edward Johnston. Inscribed by T. J. Cobden-Sanderson. This one, 300 copies printed on paper. Printed by T. J Cobden-Sanderson & Emery Walker. Compositors: J. H. Mason and W. Jenkins. Pressmen: H. Gage-Cole, and Albert Lewis. Set in Doves type regular with some use of italic. Bound at The Doves Bindery. In contrast to William Morris, whose books were richly decorated over every inch of the page, the aim of Cobden-Sanderson’s Doves Press was to produce books of ascetic simplicity, charity of type and quality of content, without unnecessary decoration that might detract the eye from the printed page. (Tidcombe DP13).
